Before getting into the specifics of how to unlock Obsidian camo in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, it is very important to mention that a player must have earned a weapon’s Gold camo before they can even begin working towards Obsidian. This is done by completing all of the camo challenges for a particular weapon, and fans that are interested in the Obsidian camo in CoD: MW should make sure that they meet that prerequisite before proceeding.

Once a player has unlocked a weapon’s Gold camo in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, they will then need to complete a specific challenge to earn the Obsidian camo. These challenges vary based on the weapon that a player wants to unlock the Obsidian camo for, and here is what is required for each weapon category:

Assault Rifles: Kill 15 enemies in a match 200 times. SMGs: Kill 15 enemies in a match 150 times. Shotguns: Kill 15 enemies in a match 150 times. LMGs: Kill 15 enemies in a match 150 times. Marksman Rifles: Kill 15 enemies in a match 150 times. Sniper Rifles: Kill 15 enemies in a match 125 times. Riot Shield: Kill 750 Enemies. Handguns: Kill 15 enemies in a match 100 times. Launchers: Destroy a vehicle or Killstreak 100 times. RPG-7: Kill 5 enemies in a match 150 times. Combat Knife: Kill 10 enemies in a match 125 times.

Considering these requirements, it will certainly take players quite a bit of time to earn Call of Duty: Modern Warfare’s Obsidian camo for even a single weapon. However, it is worth mentioning that fans can advance a challenge multiple times within a single match by meeting the aforementioned requirements more than once. For instance, a player that kills 30 enemies in a match with an Assault Rifle will be two steps closer to unlocking Obsidian, and that may speed things up slightly for some skilled fans.

It is also notable that players do not need to have Platinum or Damascus camo in CoD: MW before they can earn Obsidian camo for their weapons. Considering how time-consuming it can be to unlock those special cosmetics, with Damascus requiring fans to unlock every Platinum camo in the game, this is sure to come as a relief to some Call of Duty: Modern Warfare players, but even still the road to Obsidian will definitely not be a short one.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is out now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
