Call of Duty 2019 is being developed by franchise creator Infinity Ward and has been long rumored to be a fourth installment in the popular Modern Warfare series, following 2011’s Modern Warfare 3. Earlier this week, news broke from Kotaku’s Jason Schreier that the next installment would, in fact, be a soft reboot of the Modern Warfare series, simply called Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.
Now the official Call of Duty Twitter account has changed its profile picture to a black background with the Call of Duty logo displayed in white and the header image has been changed to an all black display. The description has also been changed to “Going Dark” with each of the foreign accounts translating to something similar. And multiple media outlets have cited sources prior to the social media accounts going dark that claim Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is going to be announced on May 30.
Activision and Infinity Ward are yet to make any official announcements, but Kotaku did further claim that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare has been shown to the press and YouTube/Twitch “Influencers” in the past two weeks and more information is likely to come sometime this week. According to Schreier, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare has taken inspiration from the controversial Modern Warfare 2 mission, “No Russian”, which involved the player shooting civilians at an airport.
Call of Duty games are generally announced in Late April/Early May with additional gameplay footage shown at one of the press conferences during E3. Leaving the reveal this close to E3 is an unexpected move, however, following the recent rumors about 2020’s Black Ops 5, Activision turning all social media accounts dark now means that May 30 is almost guaranteed.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare will be releasing in 2019.
