Some protagonists made a comeback as an NPC in later games, while others are only included in one game. With the amount of games that were released in the series, players are sure to have a few favorite protagonists.
24 Player
The campaign for Black Ops III is not held in high regards by fans. The protagonist of the game does not have a name, instead only being referred to as ‘Player’. As players went through the campaign, they came to realize nothing they did was actually what the protagonist did.
Instead, ‘Player’ was beaten by robots during the first mission of the campaign and died in surgery. It should be no surprise players of the game did not like this protagonist. But hey, at least players could customize this protagonist’s armor.
23 Yuri
Yuri is the protagonist of Modern Warfare 3 while playing as Task Force 141. He was once the friend of the game’s antagonist, Makarov, before trying to turn Makarov in. Player’s play as Yuri as Task Force 141 tries to track down Makarov and put an end to World War III.

After playing as a SAS operative and Task Force 141 member in the last two games, Yuri seems boring. At the very least, he gives his life so Price can kill Makarov.
22 Logan Walker
Logan Walker becomes a Ghost after America is attacked by the Federation. Sneaking into Federation-controlled areas and helping America get the upper hand, Logan seems like a pretty cool character. The only problem is the ending of the game. The game’s antagonist, Rorke, is revealed to still be alive in a post-credit scene. Logan is dragged away and is shown to be in a underground cage.
21 Bohater Wojciech
Bohater is a Polish tanker in Call of Duty 3. Players first control him as Bohater and his tank crew are hunting down a German tanker known as the Black Baron. The crew goes through a village, destroying many tanks before killing their main target.
Unlike a few other tank-based protagonist, players can also play as infantry with Bohater. During one mission, players start in a tank but leave it to defend a hill. He is also the first and only Polish protagonist players can play as in the series.
20 Joseph Allen
Joseph Allen was a ranger before he was chosen to be in Task Force 141. Allen’s first assignment was a big one — infiltrate Makarov’s group. Allen did this and became part of the terrorist attack on the Russia airport. Makarov knew Allen was a spy, leaving Allen for dead after the attack and starting World War III.
19 Nick Reyes
Players take control of Nick Reyes, a captain of a space ship, in Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare. Players get to travel from planet to planet as they fight against the SDF. Nick dies when he sacrifices himself, leading to him suffocating in space.
18 Jason Hudson
Jason Hudson becomes the handler of Alex Mason after Mason gets back from Vorkuta. There are also a few missions where the player controls Hudson in the first Call of Duty: Black Ops game. Hudson is the protagonist of missions where the objective is to hunt down scientists behind the Nova-6 gas.
17 Jack Mitchell
Jack Mitchell goes from being a marine to working for Atlas Corporation. He comes to realize the corporation is evil, trying to take them down. Mitchell works with old friends, getting his revenge and saving the world from a man obsessed with power.
16 David Mason
David Mason is the son of Alex and is playable in Black Ops II. David is the protagonist of the modern storyline, trying to stop a terrorist from destroying the United States.

At the end of the game, David succeeds and kills Raul Menendez.
15 Gary “Roach” Sanderson
Roach is the playable Task Force 141 operator in Modern Warfare 2. He helps track down Makarov before Roach meets an unfortunate fate. He is betrayed by General Shepherd, watching as Shepherd flicks a cigar into gas and burns him alive.
14 Paul Jackson
Paul Jackson is part of the marines in the first Modern Warfare. He fights through the Middle Eastern country to find Al-Asad, only to be killed when a nuclear device goes off and kills the invading force. Players get to see his last moments, with Jackson being the first protagonist to die in the series.
13 Nichols
Nichols is the American protagonist in Call of Duty 3. He battles through France — starting at St. Lo — and players watch as he continues to lose friends in combat. By the end of the game, Nichols is promoted to a corporal and goes off to his next battle.
12 Kyle “Gaz” Garrick
Kyle Garrick starts to work with Captain Price after an attack on London. Garrick helps track down Hadir Karim after it is learned he is behind gas attacks. After the game ends, Garrick becomes part of Task Force 141 and gets the nickname Gaz.
11 James Doyle
James Doyle is the protagonist of United Offensive and Call of Duty 3. In the third game, players are parachuted into France and they help the French resistance destroy German targets. A lot of these missions also require the player to drive, offering a bit of fun.
10 Derek “Frost” Westbrook
Frost is a member of Delta Force and fights through iconic cities around the world as he tries to rescue the American president and Russian president. His squad finally succeeds with the help of Captain Price, bringing an end to World War III and hostilities with Russia.
9 Ronald “Red” Daniels
Players first meet Red Daniels as he prepares to land on the beaches of Normandy. The player gets to know about his past and home life, learning about his wife and brother.

Players control Red as they fight from Normandy to when they discover a liberation camp in Germany.
8 Alex
Players play as Alex as he is embedded in the country of Urzikstan. He takes part in secret missions to discover who took the gas from the Russians. At the end of the game, it seems as though he sacrifices himself so the others can get away. It is revealed in the Warzone story that he is still alive.
7 James Ramirez
James Ramirez is part of the American forces that defend Virginia and Washington, D.C. from attacking Russians. He helps evacuate civilians from the warzone, while also taking back the nation’s capital from the invading forces.
6 C. Miller
Miller is the playable character for World at War. Miller take part in the Pacific Campaign of the war, going from island to island to push back the Japanese. The game ends with Miller defending Shuri Castle, taking the location for the Marines.
5 “Bell”
Bell is the newest protagonist, appearing in Cold War. Bell is also a little customizable, with players choosing their name and former allegiance. Bell helps hunt for Perseus, only for it to be revealed Bell knew Perseus. Players are then given a choice, allowing for multiple endings.
