Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is adding two new guns through the Season 4 battle pass, as the C58 Assault Rifle and MG38 LMG will be coming to the game. With the former resembling the FAL and the latter adding to the lacking LMG lineup, fans are understandably excited for the guns. It seems like accessing the new weapons will come with a cost, however. According to Reddit user grantmumma, downloading the Season 4 update has the chance to remove older weapons from player inventories.

The player attached a screenshot of the Tactical Rifle category, and sure enough, the CARV 2 is nowhere to be seen. Added as a midseason weapon in Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War’s third Season, the CARV 2 Tactical Rifle resembles the G11 from the original Black Ops game. To get access to this unique gun, players needed to complete a challenge across several matches. This made the process of unlocking the weapon a bit of a chore, which instantly makes its removal scarier.
In the past, Treyarch has intentionally removed midseason weapons when players access them early. When they return, fans need to complete the weapon challenge again, losing their progress on weapon levels and camo unlocks in the process. As such, fans are worried the same thing could happen here. Despite the removal being tied to a bug, gamers are fearing that they will need to redo all their challenges for the CARV 2 when it returns. Unfortunately, it does not stop at this weapon, as Redditor Youtube_Man_100 shows that the Ballistic Knife has also disappeared.
With the Ballistic Knife also added as part of Season 3 Reloaded, it seems like the bug is tied directly to this batch of weapons. Still, it is extremely frustrating and worrying, especially for those that like the CARV 2 or Ballistic Knife. While Treyarch Community Manager FoxhoundFPS has confirmed that Treyarch already has a fix for this in the works, no ETA is provided on when it will be coming. With this bug being so devastating, though, it will hopefully come sooner rather than later.
Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War fans have been quick to call out how absurd the issue is, and when paired with the game’s other issues, it is hard not to sympathize with their frustrations. Despite the game releasing over six months ago, it is still having severe problems like this one.
Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
