Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Zombies fans have been waiting patiently for a new Survival map, as Outbreak mode has been the focus since it arrived in Season 2. Fortunately, Season 4 is bringing that wait to an end, as a brand-new Survival map is coming to the game. Like Firebase Z, this map will be a free addition, and it is rumored to be set in Berlin. While this is certainly exciting, the balance update coming with the map could be an equally important addition.

The most recent Zombies balancing update was controversial, as it did a mix of good and bad things. While fans were ecstatic to see Assault Rifles and SMGs getting buffed, other adjustments have hurt the mode’s late game progression. Specifically, the decision to heavily buff Zombie health in high rounds has made the higher rounds feel incredibly slow, as the previous health cap that came at Round 40 ensured that high round gameplay was never too tedious. Fortunately, Treyarch Designer Kevin Drew confirmed that the old health is coming back.

Responding to a Twitter post from YouTuber @JrrizzoYT, which pointed out that high rounds in Zombies now feel “too oppressive,” Drew confirmed that Treyarch is lowering the health cap” in the next balancing update. While it may not be as low as it used to be, it will be “closer” to the old state. Further, Drew confirms that this will not impact the weapon buffs, as the guns will remain strong following the choice to lower the health back down. While the decision was made to make the mode a bit tougher, it was clearly a step too far.

Drew’s tweet also confirmed that there will be a few more buffs, both of which should please fans of the mode. First, Sniper Rifles will be getting a significant boost, something that is long overdue. Currently, the guns lack a confusingly low bullet penetration stat, something that this balancing pass will hopefully be fixing. Alongside the Sniper adjustments, melee weapons will be getting buffed. For those that like using fun setups such as the Thor’s Hammer build, this should be particularly exciting. For now, fans need to wait for the Survival map to arrive.

As of now, it is unclear if the next Survival map will come before or after the second Outbreak main quest. However, it can be assumed that one will launch with Season 4, with the other being saved for Season 4 Reloaded.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
