This fix is for Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War crashing on the Xbox Series X. The most important step, perhaps, is turning off Ray Tracing. This is because it has become abundantly clear, unfortunately, that Ray Tracing causes performance issues on Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War for both the Xbox Series X and PS5. The way to fix the issue, according to u/EmadBella on Reddit is rather bizarre.
Many individuals who have had the games crash will notice that at the start of rounds, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War will start to stutter, and the frame rate drops. Additionally, the Xbox Series X controller does not vibrate (so the Reddit user recommends testing this out by taking some test shots with the gun). So if all of this is happening, simply press and hold the “Xbox” button on the controller. The power menu will pop up and ask if the player wants to shut down, turn off the controller, restart, etc. Instead of doing any of these things, simply press that “B” button to go back to the game, and the issue is fixed. The game will not crash.
For now, this fix is not full proof by any means. This post was only uploaded on Reddit two days ago. But this could be a short term fix for those who are struggling to get through matches in a night of fragging it up with friends in Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War.
There are a lot of secrets and fun to be had in Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, it is a bummer to be kicked out of a match and not be able to enjoy any of it. The hope is that Treyarch and Activision are able to fix the issues through patches entirely, so that fans don’t need to search through Reddit for bizarre fixes for crashes like this. However, in the meantime, hopefully, this does the trick.
