Treyarch announced the news via Twitter yesterday, much to the confusion of fans. This is seemingly one of the first times that Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 has had scheduled maintenance in a very long time and given the randomness of it, some fans of suspicious as to what Treyarch might be doing.

Unfortunately, no specific details about the maintenance were given, other than the fact that it’ll be running for a half an hour from 2:00 am to 2:30 am PDT (5:00 am to 5:30 am EDT) on June 1, 2020. We have no official idea of whether or not this will be focusing on the game’s multiplayer mode, Blackout mode, or zombies mode or if it’s just general fixes for the game’s servers. That hasn’t stopped fans from speculating about the maintenance, however.
Given the fact that fans haven’t heard a word about Call of Duty 2020, which is rumored to be titled Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, some are speculating that this maintenance has something to do with a possible reveal for the game. Considering the game is rumored to be primarily developed by Treyarch, with Sledgehammer Games and Raven Software in supporting roles, this would make a bit of sense. Teasing the new year’s game in the previous year’s title is nothing new for Call of Duty, so it wouldn’t be surprising for Treyarch to add some sort of teaser to Call of Duty: Black Ops 4.
This also lines up with the rumor that Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is set to get a full reveal at the PlayStation 5 reveal event on Thursday, June 4, 2020. If Treyarch putting small nuggets and teasers within the game, which fans would then speculate about all the way up until the reveal, that would give the developer a ton of advantages when it comes to hype. Of course, this is all pure speculation and only time will tell if the fans are right about this one.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 is available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Windows PC.
