Released back in 2014, Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare was actually met with largely positive reviews, with critics from IGN, Game Informer, and more giving it a nine out of ten. Advanced Warfare marked a distinct shift from the rest of the franchise, and its bold story and high level of customization made it a real standout. Long-time Call of Duty fans, however, weren’t overly impressed with Advanced Warfare, citing its mech suit gameplay as too much of a departure from the series’ roots. Still, some of Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare’s features were great additions to the formula, and they should come back in a potential sequel.

Star Features for a Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare Features Sequel

According to a leak first circulated in a report by Ralph Valve, Sledgehammer Games could be working on a Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare sequel right now, intended for a 2025 release. If that’s true, then there are plenty of features from the first game that should be carried over to the potential sequel. One such feature is Advanced Warfare’s approach to Scorestreaks.

First used in Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, Scorestreaks replace the usual Killstreak system found in most CoD entries. As opposed to earning a powerful reward for getting consecutive kills, Scorestreaks are based on a player’s overall points, allowing assists and objective-based actions to count towards the player’s total. Advanced Warfare’s Scorestreak system went one step further, and allowed players to customize their Scorestreak rewards for an increased price.

For instance, players could upgrade their UAV so that it also jammed the enemy’s radar, but this would add another 200 points to the required total. This added a neat layer of strategy, and even more customization to the game’s classes. Any potential Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare sequel should certainly carry over this Scorestreak system, and continue to elevate one of the series’ defining traits, its class customization.

On a more specific level, Advanced Warfare’s approach to the Care Package Scorestreak should also be carried over to any sequel. Named the Orbital Care Package in this entry, this Scorestreak functions a little differently from its previous iterations. In other CoD titles, the Care Package drops where the player has specified, and contains another Killstreak, possibly of lower value, or higher than that of the Care Package itself. That gamble could lead to the player simply getting a UAV, or getting a Gunship straight off the bat.

Advanced Warfare’s Orbital Care Package, however, drops in different rarities. If the Care Package is green, then it’ll only have one module on it, offering just a standard Scorestreak with no perks attached, but if the Care Package is either blue or orange, then the Scorestreak contained inside could have a range of perks attached, such as a UAV that can show the enemy’s direction. This adds even more variety to the Care Package, which is one of the most popular Score/Killstreaks in the entire Call of Duty franchise.

Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare also had quite a range of game modes, one of which, Exo Survival, should definitely come to a rumored Advanced Warfare sequel. An improved version of Modern Warfare 3’s Survival mode, Exo Survival sees players choose from four different classes, and go up against 25 waves of enemies, with each wave increasing the difficulty. The amount of strategy and customization in this mode, which encourages players to try out different weapon, perk, and exo suit combinations, made Exo Survival one of Advanced Warfare’s most memorable modes, and it’s about time it came back.

Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare is available now for PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One.
